About Our Speakers
Secretary Leon E. Panetta has dedicated over fifty years to public service at the highest levels of government. Unanimously confirmed as Secretary of Defense in 2011, he led the development of a new defense strategy and expanded service opportunities for all, regardless of gender or background. As CIA Director, he oversaw the operation that brought Osama bin Laden to justice.
Panetta began his career as a U.S. Army First Lieutenant, then served in civil rights enforcement at the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare. He represented California’s Central Coast in Congress for sixteen years, where he helped create the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. He later served as Director of the Office of Management and Budget and White House Chief of Staff under President Clinton. He now chairs the Panetta Institute for Public Policy.
Former Congressman David Jolly represented Florida’s 13th district from 2014 to 2017 and was known as a pragmatic Republican willing to cross party lines. Often praised for “speaking the truth” and seeking compromise, he prioritized practical solutions over rigid ideology.
Since then, Jolly has advocated for political reform and a multi-party democracy, writing for Time, The Washington Post, CNN, and others. He is a political commentator for MSNBC and CNN, Executive VP at Shumaker Advisors Florida, and editor of A Divided Union, a book on bipartisanship. His evolution from Republican congressman to reform advocate reflects his commitment to pluralism and solutions-driven leadership.
